About Kind Hands Books

Stories for kind hearts, gentle hands, and the animals who share our world.

Kind Hands Books creates children’s stories and family resources
centered around kindness to animals. Our goal is simple: help children
learn that animals have feelings, needs, boundaries, and ways of
communicating that deserve to be noticed and respected.

Why Kind Hands Books?

Children often love animals long before they understand how
animals experience the world.

A child may want to hug a dog who would rather have some space,
follow a cat who is trying to walk away, interrupt an animal
while it is eating, or simply miss the quiet signals an animal
is giving.

Those moments are opportunities to teach.

Through gentle stories, relatable characters, thoughtful
illustrations, activities, and conversations with caring adults,
Kind Hands Books helps children begin to notice what animals
may be telling them.

We want children to understand that loving an animal isn’t only
about wanting to pet, cuddle, or play with it. Sometimes love
looks like waiting. Sometimes it means giving space. Sometimes
the kindest choice is simply letting an animal walk away.

What We Believe

Kindness isn’t one big lesson. It grows through hundreds of small
choices children make as they learn about the animals around them.

Animals Have Feelings

Animals can experience comfort, fear, excitement, stress,
curiosity, and the need for rest and space.

🐾

Gentle Hands Matter

Children can learn that being gentle means more than touching
softly. It also means knowing when not to touch at all.

👀

Noticing Is a Skill

Children can learn to notice when an animal turns away,
moves away, becomes uncomfortable, or asks for space.

🌱

Kindness Can Be Practiced

Small everyday choices help caring behavior become a
natural part of a child’s life.

📖

Stories Open Conversations

A story gives children a safe way to talk about feelings,
choices, mistakes, and what they might do differently.

🤝

Grown-Ups Matter Too

Parents, caregivers, teachers, and other adults help children
turn a lesson in a book into kindness in everyday life.

Meet the Creator

Wynter Rowan

Wynter Rowan is the creator behind Kind Hands Books, where
stories, illustration, and a love of animals come together
with one purpose: helping children learn to treat animals
with kindness.

Her approach begins with a simple idea. Children should not
only be told to “be nice” to animals. They can be shown what
kindness actually looks like in the small situations that
happen every day.

That may mean keeping hands in their lap while a dog finishes
eating, noticing when an animal moves away, waiting patiently
instead of grabbing, or understanding that an animal gets to
decide when it wants attention.

Wynter creates stories with those real-life moments in mind,
using characters and situations children can understand and
grown-ups can talk about with them.

Kind Hands Books is one part of Wynter’s creative work. Her
personal website will soon be home to more of her books,
art, creative projects, and other work.

Our Promise to Families

We want Kind Hands Books to be a place families and educators feel
comfortable returning to for thoughtful children’s stories and
practical resources.

Our books are created to encourage conversation rather than shame.
Children are learning. They will misunderstand signals, forget rules,
become excited, and make mistakes. Caring adults can help them slow
down, notice what happened, and practice a kinder choice next time.

We also believe kindness to animals and child safety belong together.
Respecting an animal’s boundaries helps protect both the animal
and the child.

Be kind. Be gentle. Pay attention.

Sometimes the kindest hands are the hands that wait.
